SAN JOSÉ, COSTA RICA — Youth and children’s surfing will go into full gear primarily in Costa Rica, as part of Central America, but the possibility of more event dates in the region and Puerto Rico is also open.
The Costa Rica Surfing Federation and the NSSA Central America & Puerto Rico Conference have joined forces in a historic alliance to strengthen youth surfing.
This initiative connects the national federated surfing structure with the NSSA competitive platform, creating a comprehensive sports development pathway from local communities to international tournaments in the United States.
Key points of the agreement:
Sports Development and Internationalization: Allows athletes (U10 to U16 categories) to compete for the National Championship, aspire to the NSSA Central America & Puerto Rico title, and qualify for the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) Regional and National Championships in the US.
Regulations and Standards: Competitions will be governed by the rules of the NSSA, the Federation, and the international judging and interference criteria of the International Surfing Association (ISA).
Sports Scholarships: NSSA CA & PR will grant two sports scholarships to each shortboard association on the Tour to support new youth ambassadors.
Institutional Support: Features Banco LAFISE as the main sponsor to boost opportunities at the national, regional, and international levels.
Date Options and Open Calendar.
The tour will begin in Costa Rica, visiting iconic communities in the Central Pacific, Guanacaste, and the Caribbean (Jacó, Santa Teresa, Tamarindo/Avellanas/Playa Hermosa, Cieneguita, and the Grand Final in Playa Hermosa).
However, because it is a regional conference (NSSA Central America & Puerto Rico), the project considers and leaves open the possibility of incorporating or coordinating official event dates in other Central American countries and Puerto Rico, expanding the competitive experience and cultural exchange for surfers in the region.
